FAQ

Which course do I pick for my student?

The ASAP Program is designed for high school students who are interested in competing in their State’s All-State Competition. In Texas, this includes both TMEA and ATSSB All-State competitions.

The ARAP program is designed for middle school band students who wish to compete for a spot in their All-Region or All-District bands.

The MAP program is designed for all levels and ages who wish to refine their general fundamentals and musicality. Students will be grouped based on age and experience level.

What is the value of group classes over 1-1 coaching and private lessons?

One on one coaching is an invaluable tool. You can get personalized instruction and exercises that are tailor made to your individualized needs. It is the industry standard practice for a reason. That being said, 1-1 private instruction has some major limitations. You only get 30-60 minutes of a teacher’s attention per week, which means the rest of the week you are on your own. Group classes also offer something private lessons often don’t. A supportive community where students motivate and hold each other accountable!

Will my student receive individual attention?
All group classes include access to a private Padlet group, where students can ask their instructor questions, submit performance videos, and receive feedback outside of class time. Most teachers will have guided warm-ups for students to utilize as well, which will be a way to do a follow-along warm up with a professional musician.

Can I use your course instead of hiring a private lesson teacher?
One-on-one lessons are an amazing resource. We highly recommend them! Our goal is to bring the community aspect of band into mastery of etudes and fundamentals, all under the guidance of top industry professionals. BDSG programs offer an efficient and comprehensive way to work with a world-class musician at an affordable price. We recommend using our course in conjunction with private lessons!

Will BDSG Programs remain online after the quarantine ends?

Yes! In order to provide the top instructors in the nation, we must source these teachers from many different states. This allows us to keep the programs both invaluable and affordable for all.

Is online learning as good as in-person instruction?

Online instruction and in-person instruction are different. It is not really possible to compare them, because each provides unique and distinct advantages. Online learning provides a significantly greater opportunity for a student to receive feedback and learn to practice effectively, which ultimately leads to results.

How long is each course?
Our MAP, ARAP, and ASAP courses run for 12 weeks, with approximately 2 courses per week.  Real transformation takes time, and we want to help you develop expertise and confidence in your playing.

What if I can’t make every class?

No problem! Classes are not rescheduled except by emergency or technological failure, however, all classes are recorded and are available if a student needs to watch at a later time. We will work with all participants to try and find the most convenient time for everyone to meet based on instructor availability.

Why do you need to know what district and school I am in?

This information is crucial for placing student into the correct programs. The All-Region Music is often different district to district, so it is important that we place students in different programs tailored to their specific needs.
